Working in the Printing Industry During the Pandemic

1-1

During the pandemic, our company was challenged in more ways than one to remain physically safe from Covid-19 while still maintaining the same exceptional products and customer service. In this blog, we will talk about some of the Pros and Cons of working in the Printing industry during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Pros

At the beginning of the pandemic, everyone was worried that we would have to temporarily close our business or lose business. Fortunately, the complete opposite happened, there was a tremendous increase in demand DURING the pandemic and an increase in demand for all industries coming OUT of the pandemic. Due to the high demand from customers, this caused us to be more aligned with and work more closely with our suppliers to better manage supply chain disruptions. It forced the printing industry to better communicate to suppliers and customers due to the supply chain and pricing challenges. At Flexible Pack, we strive to provide exceptional customer service, so even though the supply chain was being affected, we remained focused on communicating any known updates to the customers regarding their project. With all the challenges going on, there was a great camaraderie between employees looking out for the well-being of one another. Even in the tough times, our company came together to make sure everyone was staying safe and healthy both at work and at home.

Cons

During the entirety of the pandemic, Flexible Pack, as well as many other printing companies, underwent production challenges due to employees being out due to sickness or for safety. This caused struggles with the manufacturing schedule and delays. The pandemic also made it costly to maintain a safe work environment each day since if there ever was a positive covid case, the company shut down to have a professional cleaning team do a deep treatment of the entire building. Other than personnel, there were and still are numerous supply chain issues in regard to material shortages, delayed shipping, and lack of labor which in turn negatively impacted production lead times. These same chain shortages caused an increase in material prices. When certain materials were difficult to obtain, we at Flexible Pack were sure to communicate all material options for our customers' projects, so they are aware of different alternatives.
